On the steel surface, there were about 500,000 live bacteria following the elasped time. In comparison, the number of bacteria on the copper surface was eliminated by 75% after just one hour, and roughly 500 bacteria remained after 6 hours.The study also ‘shows that copper targets various cellular sites, not only killing bacterial and viral pathogens, but also rapidly destroying their nucleic acid genetic material so there is no chance of mutation occurring and nothing to pass on to other microbes, a process called horizontal gene transfer.
